Here is your chance to get hooked on fly fishing! Yellowstone Fly Fishing School’s one and two day classes will prepare you for lifetime of fly fishing by giving you the knowledge and skills needed to be an independent angler. The Yellowstone River and its tributaries will be your classroom for these fun, and informative classes. Lunches and gear are included.
One day class: Topics include fly casting, essential fishing knots, gear and tackle discussion, fly selection, reading water, what fish eat, and fishing! Lunches are provided and use of a fly rod is included. Class fee $575 for one or two students and $150 for each additional student up to 6 students.
Two day class: Our two day class builds upon the one day class by adding a full day of either floating the Yellowstone or walk wading one of wonderful smaller tributary creeks. Lunches are provided and use of a fly rod is included Price $1,000 for one or two students and $175 for each additional student up to 6.
Gather some friends! Bring the family! Our four hour program is a great way to discover the sport of fly fishing. Whether you are just beginning, or wanting to learn more advanced tactics YFFS can structure a program to suit your individual needs. Time will be spent both on land and water improving your fly fishing skills. The techniques used in the program will improve your casting, presentation, and overall knowledge of fly fishing. Class fee is $425 for one student, $50 for each additional student (4 max. per class). For larger groups, call for details.
Join the professional instructors of YFFS for a half or full day of guided fishing. Choose between a scenic float the Yellowstone River in a comfortable drift boat, or walk/wade trip on one of the smaller Yellowstone River tributaries. Perhaps you prefer a private lake or one of Paradise Valley’s world renowned spring creeks. Some may choose to fish in the fabled waters of Yellowstone National Park for their adventure. All options are amazing and will be conducted with a focus on teaching new skills to make you a better angler.

Experienced or beginning fly fishers alike can benefit from fly casting instruction. Whether its learning the basics, dusting off the casting rust, gaining distance, improving accuracy, or learning specialty casts YFFS invites you to improve your casting. All YFFS staff are either Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructors, or Master Certified Casting Instructors.

The gin clear waters of Depuy’s, Nelson’s, and Armstrong’s spring creeks and the wary trout that call them their home await you! These famous, challenging, and stunningly beautiful creeks have a reputation all to their own. YFFS invites you to discover these gems and to share with you the techniques and tactics for successful spring creek fishing. Program fee is $600 for one or two anglers. There is a rod fee of $40 – $120 (dependent on season) per angler added to the price of this class. Includes lunch and beverages.

Learning stillwater fly fishing techniques is an essential arrow for any fly anglers quiver. These skills are adaptable for many different fish species including trout, bass, bluegill, crappie, and pike. Join YFFS staff on one of the many private lakes and ponds in Paradise Valley to hone your lake and pond skills. Workshop fee is $575 for one or two anglers. Additional anglers may be added at $150 each. A private lake rod fee is added on per person. Rod fees vary depending on the season. Call for pricing. Includes lunch and beverages.

This popular program fits a lot of activity into a little amount of time. The two hour lesson consists of a quick casting lesson on dry land then off to the Yellowstone River in search of trout. Cost of the program is $225 for one person and $25 for each additional up to 3 participants. A private stocked pond can be added for an additional $75 per person. For larger groups call for availability and pricing.
This class is being offered by Matt Wilhelm and Marya Spoja. Marya and Matt both feel that a fun, informative and professionally conducted class is a great way to introduce women to the sport. This class is a great first step in becoming a confident student of fly fishing. The goal is to provide enough basic fly fishing skills to instill the knowledge, confidence, and the desire to become an independent angler! Topics will include: Fly tackle/gear, knots, rigging your rod, insect identification, selecting the right fly, reading the water, casting, and wading safety, and fishing on the Yellowstone! Class fee is $575 for one or two students. $150 each for additional students. Lunch, flies, use of a fly rod included.
At Yellowstone Fly Fishing School we love to teach kids! This four hour program is a great way or your child to discover the world of fly fishing and the world in which fish live in a fun learning environment. We have put together a one-of-a kind kids program that is perfect for children of all ages. Fun on the Fly’s is a complete learning experience that not only teaches kids about fly fishing but also about the science and importance of water. Shifting topics once an hour will keep the kids engaged, busy, and excited to learn and discover. Students will learn to cast a fly rod, examine what fish eat by observing live creek critters, explore where fish live, learn how to tie flies, and go fishing. The class fee is $325, each additional student $50 and includes all gear and materials. Parents are more than welcome to attend with their child. We ask that kids 10 and younger be accompanied by an adult. A private pond fee with stocked trout can be added for $75 per person.
YFFS provides fly rods for our guests to use. Wading gear can be rented for a nominal fee. Private water rod fees are not included in the price. These fees fluctuate with the season. Montana fishing licenses are not included and can be purchased online at fwp.mt.gov/fishing/license/ or at one of the local fly shops. Gratuity is not included but always appreciated!
